July in Review

As I was getting ready to write this post, I realized that we are in August already! July flew by so fast! Maybe it’s the hot weather and I just couldn’t wait for the month to get over or maybe it’s true that the summer months just go by quickly.

Anyway, I just finished working on the numbers for July and, even though we lost a Friday and Saturday in sales compared to last year, we ended the month being down less than 1 percent compared to last year. Even with losing a weekend in sales and it being so warm, we had a successful July. You would think that with all the warm weather, our beer sales would be through the roof. Beer sales were very strong for the month; however, we still sold $130,000 more in wine than beer.

July’s liquor, beer and wine of the month specials did well, too. We sold more than 1,000 cases of Stella, Hoegaarden and the Best of Belgium sample packs. We also sold nearly 60 cases of Vox Vodka, Sauza Tequila and O3 Orange Liqueur. Again, wine was the big seller in July with more than 335 cases of McManis wines. That is more than 4,000 bottles of one brand in a month! Many stores do not sell that many cases of a single brand in a year. We do very little advertising of these products during the promotion so it is quite amazing that we sell this much in any given month.
