The Edina Art Center offers pottery and clay sculpture classes for individuals aged 16 and older. We offer convenient morning, afternoon and evening classes seven days a week. Each year, the Art Center hosts local, regional and nationally known potters in workshops for students to learn new skills and trends in pottery. Hand-Building and Wheel Techniques

For Beginner to Intermediate

Ben Fiess

In this class, students will be introduced to basic hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques.  Demonstrations will cover a variety of pottery forms for beginning students to practice as well as to challenge intermediate students.  Students will work at their own pace and receive individual attention to aid them with their progress.  *No class Jan. 21 or Feb. 18.  Maximum 12.

Refining Your Skills

For Intermediates to Advanced

This wheel-throwing class is designed to help intermediate potters expand their skills and move past their current plateaus. Students explore new and larger forms, improve trimming techniques, and pay closer attention to the details that make a pot more successful. There will be personal attention and class projects as well as discussions about form, function and aesthetics to help support each student’s individual progress. *No class Jan. 21 or Feb. 18.

Refining Your Skills - Glazing

For Intermediates to Advanced

Vanessa Greene

Students will improve glazing skills in this class.  The instructor will explore many different application techniques, including dipping, pouring, layering, wax/latex resist, taping and use of the spray booth.  The class will also discuss how different clays affect glaze results and how to glaze differently for different kilns.  Students should bring glazeware made in other classes at the Edina Art Center ready to glaze. *No class Nov. 12.

Ceramics & Sculpture

For Intermediate to Advanced

Ceramics and sculpture students will refine their skills in the studio.  As a group, the class will explore wheel, hand-building and combination techniques in depth.  The class will also look at multiple surface decorating techniques, including decals, luster, stencils and slip.  *No class Nov. 12.  **No class Jan. 21 or Feb. 18.  Maximum 12.
