The City of Edina offers a wide variety of internships for either a full year or just a summer. See the descriptions below for details. Check for current listings.
Assessing Internship
The Assessing Department's summer internship program offers the opportunity to experience data collection and other office duties while being trained with another appraiser.
This position requires academic experience in finance, economics, real estate, appraisal, business or a related field.
Communications Internship
The Communications Department offers an internship during the school year and another one in the summer. Interns must work at least 16 hours per week, but can work up to 40.
The Communications Intern writes stories, compiles content and takes photographs for the City's newsletters, annual report, website and social media accounts. The intern assists with website maintenance and creating new social media posts. The intern also assists with special events and aids in the creation of marketing and advertising materials.
Requirements for the internship include strong interpersonal skills; major in communications or a related field; junior or senior coursework in communications, public relations, marketing or journalism; and experience with Microsoft software and social media. Experience in graphic design, website design/maintenance or video production is a plus.
Engineering Internship
The Engineering Department offers internships for college level students in civil engineering, surveying, water resources, sustainability, geographical information systems or other related fields.
Interns may rotate between areas to increase their learning. Work varies and may include the following: creating preliminary engineering reports estimates; field inspections; surveying; data collection; verification for our GIS and asset management systems.
Interns typically work in the summer, but may be eligible for extended assignments on a case by case basis.
Police Internship
The Police Department's internship program is designed to provide current Law Enforcement students the opportunity to experience an advanced understanding of aspects and functions of a mid-sized, suburban police department. The program will include assignments relating to:
- Community Service
- Dispatch
- Investigations
- Patrol
- Retail Crimes
- School Resource
- Training and Administration
Public Health Internship
The Health Department's internship offers experience in Public Health related activities, focusing in the area of Environmental Health. Interns are also involved in the code enforcement process and resolution.
The main goal of the Public Health internship is an introduction of the Public Health system in Minnesota and an opportunity for an intern to learn if a career if Public Health is the right path for him/her.
