Election Judges

Edina's polling locations are staffed by citizens who are appointed as election judges. 

Serving as an election judge is an opportunity to give back to the community. Come work with us!

Judges Sought From Parties Other Than DFL

  • Republican Party
  • Grassroots-Legalize Cannabis Party
  • Legal Marijuana Now Party

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age or a high school student at least 17 years old
  • A U.S. citizen and a Minnesota resident for at least 20 days
  • Declare which party you are affiliated with, if any
  • Able to read, write and speak English understandably
  • Attend mandatory paid training
  • Must not be the spouse, parent, stepparent, child, sibling or step-sibling of any election judge serving in the same precinct or of any candidate on the ballot at that election
  • Must not live, either permanently or temporarily, with any candidate on the ballot at that election
  • Must not live with any election judge serving in the same precinct

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and follow election laws, regulations and procedures
  • Ability to remain impartial
  • Ability to communicate clearly with voters
  • Physically and mentally able to perform assigned tasks
  • Attention to detail and general math skills
  • Enjoy assisting and serving diverse populations

Duties of an Election Judge Include

  • Set up and close down the polling place
  • Greet and assist voters
  • Register and sign in voters
  • Demonstrate proper method for completing a ballot
  • Distribute ballots to voters
  • Operate voting equipment
  • Help voters requiring assistance
  • Record and certify precinct results
