The Hiring Process
Police Officer candidates can expect:
- Written test during the application process
- Multi-stage Interview process
- Physical ability test
- Thorough background investigation
- Medical Exam
- Psychological assessment
- Field training program
Candidates must meet the licensing requirements and adhere to the standards of the Minnesota Peace Officers Standards and Training Board. New Officers will have to complete a one year probationary period and must be eligible for licensure by the Minnesota Peace Officers Standards and Training Board at the time of hiring.

Officers in the Police Department are expected to work hard and provide a high quality of service to the community, making this a premier department in the region. Patrol officers work a 12-hour shift with varying days off.
Edina Officers can usually be found at the top of the pay scale in the area with salaries.
- Based on the 2018 contract, salaries range from $60,994-$83,686.
- Officers working some special assignments receive an additional $375 per month.

We are part owners in the South Metro Public Safety Training Facility, located in Edina. This combined public safety training center is operated by four police departments and three fire departments. Officers continually receive high level training to meet the demands of the changing world and expectations of our community. Instructors are brought in from across the country to teach the latest skills and techniques.
