Edina, Minn., March 19, 2021 – Starting Friday, March 19, members of the Edina community have the chance to weigh in on proposed changes to local parking ordinances.
In 2020, the Edina City Council requested the Planning Commission evaluate the appropriateness of the City’s off-street parking regulations, which have been in place since 1992. Many of the current standards have not been amended since 1970. Over the past nine months, the Planning Commission has been considering revisions.
Highlights of the parking ordinance amendment drafted by the Commission include:
- Incentives for developers to reduce parking, such as shared parking, bike parking, sustainability and location near transit stops
- Maximum limits on parking spaces
- Separate regulations within the City’s commercial nodes
- General reduction in the the number of parking stalls required for projects
Residents are encouraged to visit BetterTogetherEdina.org/parking-ordinance-amendments to learn more about the proposed changes and submit their feedback.
Residents may also make public hearing testimony by leaving a voicemail at 952-826-0377 or participating in the April 28 Planning Commission meeting.
