Edina, Minn., Dec. 8, 2022 – Interested in getting involved with local government? Consider applying for appointment to one of the Edina City Council’s advisory boards or commissions.
Applications will be accepted through Jan. 27. No prior experience on a board or commission is required. The City seeks applicants of different ages and genders, education levels, housing types and experiences. The only requirements are that applicants be at least 18 years of age and live in Edina.
There will be open positions on the Arts & Culture Commission, Board of Appeal & Equalization, Community Health Commission, Construction Board of Appeals, Energy & Environment Commission, Heritage Preservation Commission, Human Rights & Relations Commission, Parks & Recreation Commission, Planning Commission and Transportation Commission. New appointments begin March 1, 2023, and are three years in length. On average, a volunteer’s estimated contribution is four to six hours per month, dedicated to projects approved by the City Council.
Community Engagement Manager MJ Lamon, who coordinates the Volunteer Edina program, reminds residents about the value of their unique contributions. “We are thankful for the variety of talent in our volunteers that allows us to fill 10 different advisory boards and commissions, each of which completes a necessary area of work in the community,” she said. “Behind many events, research efforts and progressive initiatives that are carried out each year by the City is the effort and support of the 98 resident volunteers who serve.”
