Edina Fire Responds to Highwood Drive House Fire

Edina, Minn., Feb. 10, 2023 – An attic caught fire in the 5400 block of Highwood Drive West around 2:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10.

The family in the house was alerted to the fire by working smoke detectors. They found smoke in the hallway and bedrooms. They were able to escape the house with their dog and call 911. Firefighters arrived on the scene quickly, confirmed the family’s safety and then located and extinguished the fire.

“Sleeping with your doors closed provides extra time to escape when alerted to a fire by working smoke detectors,” said Fire Marshal David Ehmiller.

No injuries were reported. Ehmiller said quick notification from the smoke detectors also helped keep the fire and smoke damage to a minimum. Until fire mitigation takes place, the family will not be able to return to their home. Assisting Edina Fire were the Edina Police Department and fire departments from Richfield, St. Louis Park and Hopkins.
