City of Edina Participates in ‘Welcoming Week’

Edina, Minn., Sept. 11, 2023 – Sept. 8-17 is “Welcoming Week” in Edina.

Welcoming Week is an annual campaign that celebrates the work in communities to become welcoming places for all, including immigrants. Launched in 2012 by Welcoming America and its members, Welcoming Week provides individuals and organizations the opportunity to showcase their values through events and initiatives that foster connections and collaboration between immigrants and nonimmigrants, as well as a sense of belonging for all.

“Edina’s participation in Welcoming Week acknowledges the growing diversity in the community and the importance of continuing to build a welcoming and inclusive city for all,” said Race & Equity Manager Heidi Lee, who staffed booths at the Sept. 7 Centennial Lakes Farmers Market and the Sept. 9-10 Fall into the Arts Festival to share information.

The Edina City Council proclaimed Sept. 8-17 as “Welcoming Week,” as did the City Councils in Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Richfield and Savage.
