  2. 4063: Life Drawing

    February 22, 2018, 9:15 AM - 12:15 PM @ Art Center

    Draw from the model and learn the methods of the masters. The first half of class will consist of short poses to seize the figure quickly and to capture the rhythmic action of the pose. The second half of the class will be a sustained pose carried on in the remaining classes. This gives students the opportunity to learn how to finish a drawing incorporating form, anatomy, beauty of line and “sculpting” the body from within. Teens are welcome to take the class with adult permission.

  3. 3088: Thursday Morning Pottery

    Learn the skills of how to use heavy body acrylic paints. Instruction will be focused on mixing colors, blending with acrylics, values and glazing. Basic technique will be covered for beginners and refinement will be provided for experienced painters. All levels are welcome.

    This is a wheel class for students looking to expand their grasp of throwing a variety of forms. Technique and practice will be emphasized to accomplish challenging forms and give students the skills to make work that is truly their own.   7. 4004: Drawing for All Skill Levels

    February 22, 2018, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM @ Art Center

    This class is for all skill levels. New students will work on short sketches of simple objects. Based on skill level, students will work on a still life or photo for longer periods of time. Good drawing is the basis for all two- and three-dimensional artwork. Line, contour drawing, blind contour, cross-hatching, perspective and basic realistic drawing exercises will be covered in pencil and charcoal. We will discuss shading, tone, light, value, shape, form and the use of positive and negative space. Kathy strives to create a positive and supportive class environment. *No class Oct. 19.

    Learn techniques for creating ceramic sculpture. If you want to create an animal, figure, abstract or some other type of ceramic work, this class is for you. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination! Students will learn proper architecture for creating sculpture. Individual attention is given to allow students to pursue their own direction. Come to the first class with your own project idea and we will work together to create it. Students must purchase their own clay on the first day of class, approximately $10-15.

    Classes will cover the fundamental techniques of throwing basic forms on the potter’s wheel and hand building. There will be class demonstrations and time for students to work on projects of their own! The Art Center will provide the tools, recycled clay and firing fees for up to 10 pounds of completed work. Students will need to purchase clay and firing fees if they create more than 10 pounds of artwork. Students who are members of the Art Center have access to open studio time.     An understanding of human form is essential for artists to be able to express themselves. Anatomy makes the figure; learn to draw the figure from inside out.     Having a good image is the beginning of a good painting. Our images should have a good balance between lights and darks, warm and cool values, an interesting composition and clear detail. Drawing using the sight-size or the comparative method is encouraged, but our focus is on painting and we can shorten the drawing stage when needed.   29. 3202: Advanced Soda Firing Methods

    Students will create, glaze and learn to prepare pottery to be fired in the Art Center’s outdoor soda kiln. Advanced students will work on and off the wheel on thrown, altered and hand-built forms. Emphasis will be on creating pottery forms that work well in soda kiln firing. This is a hands-on class in which students will load, fire and unload the soda kiln to learn the process and theories of kiln firing with a down draft high-fire soda kiln! Students enrolled in this class will have priority to fire in the labor-intensive soda kiln firings. *No class March 13.
