Learn techniques for creating ceramic sculpture. If you want to create an animal, figure, abstract or some other type of ceramic work, this class is for you. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination! Students will learn proper architecture for creating sculpture. Individual attention is given to allow students to pursue their own direction. Come to the first class with your own project idea and we will work together to create it. Students must purchase their own clay on the first day of class, approximately $10-15. No Class Sept. 22.
Join this class to make, glaze and fire Raku pottery. Raku is a firing process developed in 16th century Japan for the Japanese tea ceremony. Bisque pots are glazed, dried and fired in the kiln where they remain until the glazes have melted at temperatures around 1,800 degrees. The piece is removed hot from the kiln, put into a metal “reduction chamber” full of combustible material that burns and alters the glaze, color and surface. The Raku process is fun and hands-on and produces wonderful, lustrous and crackle glazes.
