October 28, 2017, 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM @ Art Center
Steven Hill will demonstrate his technique of spraying and spend time teaching more advanced theories of layering and blending glazes. He will cover cone 6-8 glazes and briefly discuss lowering the maturation point of cone 10 glazes to cone 6-8. On the first day, Steven will throw, assemble, apply slip and discuss his philosophical approach toward making functional pottery. The next day, he will demonstrate his techniques of spraying and layering glazes and students will glaze their pottery. We will load the electric kiln(s) and fire overnight to approximately cone 8. On the third day, the discussion will focus on firing schedules and equipment required to spray glazes. The workshop will end with unloading the kiln(s) and discussing the work. Steven will bring fired examples of finished work to discuss with students and they will be available for purchase. This is a participatory glazing workshop for electric firing.
