Join this class to make, glaze and fire Raku pottery. Raku is a firing process developed in 16th century Japan for the Japanese tea ceremony. Bisque pots are glazed, dried and fired in the kiln where they remain until the glazes have melted at temperatures around 1,800 degrees. The piece is removed hot from the kiln, put into a metal “reduction chamber” full of combustible material that burns and alters the glaze, color and surface. The Raku process is fun and hands-on and produces wonderful lustrous and crackle glazes. All students will glaze-fire three times in this 8 week class.
This is the class you’ve been looking for if you are new to oil painting, coming back to it after many years or just need a good refresher. The class will start with the very basics: how to get started with the right tools and supplies, understanding and implementing lights and shadows, color theory and how to mix your paints to render a beautiful painting. Demonstrations and fun exercises are done in a relaxed atmosphere to build your confidence and turn students into knowledgeable artists.
