Students will start by painting indoors, then venture outdoors as soon as the Minnesota weather allows! For intermediate pastel or oil painters, students will start from thumbnail sketches and learn the steps to build up a composition of layers. Emphasis will be on simplifying shapes and control of your values and depth, creating work that is clear, vivid and has a compelling presence. Instruction is a combination of demos and individualized help. If you choose, paint alongside the instructor step by step. When it’s rainy, class moves indoors and students will learn how to finish a good start, without making it look like a photo. *No class May 26.

Students will paint from beginning to end in this three-day watercolor workshop with subjects changing daily. The plan is to loosen up and relax, all while gently working the paint in wet-on-wet washes. This workshop is great for painters of all levels. Learn techniques, tricks and shortcuts that help get better results and make watercolor more exciting and easier. It is thrilling to coax and push the paint along and see the painting come alive and almost paint itself. The goal of this class for everyone is to be better than they were the day before. Instructor Jan Letson Forbes will encourage and challenge you. Plan for three days of fun and camaraderie while exploring and “going with the flow.” Bring a sack lunch.
