Richard Thieme was advised by an assistant deputy director of the NSA not to discuss what they explored in an ethics and intelligence project - unless he wrote fiction. "Fiction is the only way you can tell the truth," he said. Results of that advice are found in "Mind Games," a collection of 19 short stories culled from 35 stories published since then and the wild rollicking novel "FOAM," while a non-fiction work about the responses by the government to UFO phenomena from the 1940s-1980s reads like a detective story but is a remarkable historical work of 600 pages currently in 65 university libraries and considered the gold standard of well-documented research into an oft-marginalized subject.
Brief readings from these works illuminate the creativity of an artist finding his winding way along the hyper-real worlds of the 21st century and show why a reader (and listener to his many speeches around the world - google him on youtube) said "Your mind is a doorway I didn't know existed.
