  1. 4261: Life Drawing

    Draw from the model and learn the methods of the masters. The first half of class will consist of short poses to seize the figure quickly and to capture the rhythmic action of the pose. The second half of the class will be a sustained pose carried on in the remaining classes. This gives students the opportunity to learn how to finish a drawing incorporating form, anatomy, beauty of line and “sculpting” the body from within. Teens are welcome to take the class with adult permission.

  8. 2340: Robotics - Battle Bots

    This course offers hands-on opportunities to build and program robots. Working in small teams, students will design robotic systems to compete in fun real-world activities. Each day will bring a new challenge, and your team's robot will have to morph to better adapt and compete. Students will compete in the “battle bots” competition at the end of the camp to prove their robot is the best. This class is perfect for the student who has a big imagination and likes to build things.

  9. 3916: Learn to Load and Fire an Electric Kiln

    July 12, 2018, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Edina Art Center

    Do you own an electric kiln? Learn the basics of firing your own kiln in this half day workshop. This class will cover different styles of kilns, firing speeds, electrical requirements and basic troubleshooting. Corey DeVorak, the Edina Art Center’s Studio and Firing Assistant will lead the workshop. Corey has extensive experience with the firing of multiple kilns at various temperatures. This workshop does not authorize students to fire the Edina Art Center’s kilns, but is helpful for educators and anyone aspiring to have a kiln of their own! Students are asked to bring approximately one cubic foot of dry green ware to load and fire in a bisque kiln. Pick up dates for the completed bisque firing will be decided during the class.

  11. 7500: Metal Sculpture

    July 12, 2018, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Judd Nelson's Studio

    This class is a beginning metal sculpture class. Students will learn how to create any style of sculpture by forging, hammering or assembling pieces of metal. Students will learn to weld metals using both gas and wire feed type of welders. Bring in your found art from your basement and learn to assemble pieces into a memorable sculpture for your garden or home. Judd Nelson specializes in creating life size birds from the Midwest and will demonstrate how to create them. Modern or contemporary sculptures are also encouraged and artist Craig Snyder who specializes in this style will demonstrate techniques to create contemporary work. Students are required to wear jeans, long sleeve cotton shirts and boots or closed-toe shoes for safety consideration. *This class will be held in Mr. Nelson’s sculpture studio located near 394 and 494 and is a short distance from The Edina Art Center. **No class July 5.

  12. Art Camp JJ: Wacky Watercolors (Age 5-7)

    Embrace your inner Flower Child with this 1960’s themed camp. Start off the week with Tie-dying then create Pop Art like Andy Warhol. On the last day create poster art embracing peace and Flower Power. Campers are to bring some white clothes to tie-dye the first day (t-shirt, socks, etc.) Recycle something stained and use something you already have!

  16. 2133: Teen Pottery (Ages 13-16)

    Students will focus on developing and improving their basic skills of wheel throwing. Beginners will learn to center and make a cylinder, bowl and some simple hand-built forms. More advanced students will work on new forms to improve their technique. Clay, tools and glaze firing fees are provided in this class. *No class July 5.

  17. 4176: Drawing in Charcoal: Mark-making, Time & Scale

    This course is designed to familiarize students with charcoal drawing via reductive erasure techniques and energetic mark-making variety from a live model. To achieve familiarity with charcoal and a sense of experimentation and play when it comes to developing economy of mark through a variety of time and scale challenges, allowing a more personal mark to emerge. We will include both additive and reductive charcoal techniques and play with scale and speed (15sec gestures to more dedicated 1hour+) to develop a range of effects. We will also develop a language to discuss both technical as well as conceptual visual ideas through group and one-on-one progress checks or critiques.

  20. 7185: Enameling on Metal Clay

    Learn three enamel techniques for fine silver metal clay: basse-taille, champlevé and cloisonné using syringe clay. Students will learn how to create pieces in Art Clay silver appropriate for each enamel method. All pieces and enamel will be torch fired. All other supplies will be provided. Supply fee of $65 includes 20g of Art Clay Silver, and shared use of Art Clay syringe and enamel resources.

    Learn techniques for creating ceramic sculpture. If you want to create an animal, figure, abstract or some other type of ceramic work, this class is for you. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination! Students will learn proper architecture for creating sculpture. Individual attention is given to allow students to pursue their own direction. Come to the first class with your own project idea and we will work together to create it. Students must purchase their own clay on the first day of class, approximately $10-15. *No class June 14.

  22. 4006: Drawing for Beginners and Beyond

    This class is for individuals who have never drawn before, and those individuals who are currently drawing but need more assistance. New students will work on short sketches of simple objects. Returning students will work on a still-life for extended periods of time. Good drawing is the basis for all two- and three-dimensional artwork. Line, contour drawing, blind contour, cross-hatching along with perspective and basic realistic drawing exercises will be covered in various media, including pencil and charcoal. The class will discuss shading, tone, light, value, shape and form. *This class meets at Edina Senior Center, 5280 Grandview Square. **No class July 5.
