    Having a good image is the beginning of a good painting. Our images should have a good balance between lights and darks, warm and cool values, an interesting composition and clear detail. Drawing using the sight-size or the comparative method is encouraged, but our focus is on painting and means to shortcut the drawing stage can be used when needed. This class offers an opportunity to see with fresh eyes.

  5. Art Camp AV: Drawing 101 (Age 11-14)

  6. 1006: Members' Tuesday Afternoon Ink & Brush Painting Open Studio

    Campers will carve their own one-of-a-kind design into clay to allow light to pass through the carved openings. The pieces will be finished with colorful glazes and fired in our kiln. Place a light inside and see the shapes come to life.

  12. 5103: Traditional Watercolor

    Learn the basics of watercolor: how to carry a wash, mix colors and see values. There will be a strong emphasis on drawing, critiques and demonstrations. The class will start with demonstrations. Students will then do a copy from the flat piece and then proceed to setting up small still-lives to paint from nature. This will be a very informative class based on the history of traditional watercolor.

  13. 3206: Advanced Soda Firing Methods

    August 14, 2018, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM @ Edina Art Center

    Students will work to create and prepare pottery to be fired in the studio’s outdoor soda kiln. Advanced students will work on and off the wheel on thrown, altered and hand-built forms. Emphasis will be on creating pottery forms that work well in the soda kiln. This is a hands-on class where we learn the theory and practice of loading, firing, unloading and glazing for the soda kiln. *No class July 3 or Aug. 7
